What are dermal fillers made of?

Dermal fillers used by Siren Medical Aesthetics are made with hyaluronic acid, naturally occurring in the body. As we age, the hyaluronic acid polymers decrease in size, allowing less moisture to be absorbed. Due to this, skin becomes dry, and signs of aging, such as the disintegration of facial fat pads, are more apparent.

How long do dermal fillers last?

The length of time dermal filler lasts depends on several factors. Juvederm products are reported to last approximately 9-12 months before the body reabsorbs it. As written by Allergan, here are the lengths of time each dermal filler lasts:

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC lasts up to 1 year, with optimal treatment.
JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC lasts up to 1 year with optimal treatment.
JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® XC lasts up to 1 year, with optimal treatment.
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® XC provides natural-looking and long-lasting results that last up to 2 years with optimal treatment.
JUVÉDERM® VOLUX® XC lasts up to 1 year, with optimal treatment.

How long should I sleep on my back or side after getting filler?

The recommended length of time to sleep on ones back after facial filler is 2 to 7 days.

How do you know which type of filler to use?

Each dermal filler is approved to be used in specific areas of the face.

For JUVEDERM dermal fillers:

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is an injectable gel that temporarily adds more fullness and plumps thin lips.
JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is injected into areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur to temporarily add volume to the skin, which may give the appearance of a smoother surface.
JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® XC injectable gel is for injection into the lips for lip augmentation and for correction of perioral lines.
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® XC adds volume beneath the skin's surface, which provides lift and contour to the cheek area.
JUVÉDERM® VOLUX® XC is an injectable gel designed to improve jawline definition in patients with moderate to severe loss of jawline definition.

What aftercare is suggested by Siren Medical Aesthetics?

Use cold compresses to reduce swelling.
If you have a history of cold sores, talk with your injector before your appointment about medications that may minimize the likelihood of an outbreak. Needle punctures to the lip may increase the likelihood of cold sore reoccurrence.
Avoid taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen), St. John's wort or high doses of vitamin E supplements.1,2 These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
Minimize strenuous exercise and exposure to excessive heat, sun, or UV lamps for the first 24 hours after treatment. Exposure to any of these may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection site. Until there is no redness or swelling, avoid exposure of the treated area to intense cold or heat such as sun lamps or sunbathing.
